TRANSMUTATION

Transformation – Flow of Cycles is a multimedia performance that traces an arc from raw instinct to deliberate awareness. Rooted in a sense of internal depth, the work unfolds in three distinct acts, exploring how the unseen, inner self is physically embodied and expressed outwardly. It begins with an awakening into primordial, creature-like energies – driven by deep, growling audio where motion “just is,” devoid of conscious intent. This gives way to a disoriented, chaotic effort to make sense of the self, eventually leading to a structural collapse. From this rupture, the dancer emerges into a state of deliberate, expressive movement, embodying the sublime beauty of conscious creation before returning to rest to await a new cycle.

This narrative acts as a two-fold investigation: examining the lived experience of physical and psychological transformation, while simultaneously positioning digital technology as an active vehicle for that change. To ground this inquiry, the performance operates through a collaborative agency: a conductor who oversees and triggers elements, a dancer who physically shapes the environment, and the machine that facilitates this synthesis. Through OSC messaging, the dancer’s movements are tracked via a PoseNet machine learning model and frame differencing, dynamically modulating generative audio in MAX MSP.

Visually, the piece employs black and white contrast as a formal structural device, stripping away the noise of localized identity to focus entirely on the raw essence of motion. Rather than a static object, this setup creates an emotional and kinetic feedback loop. The software framework provides a conceptual top-down structure, but the actual performance emerges in real-time through bottom-up, embodied exploration. Ultimately, the work serves as temporary projection, a container that translates the invisible, internal shifts of human consciousness into a tangible, audio-visual dialogue.
